27 Miles was formed in 2001 as The 454 Band, but changed their name to 27 Miles in 2005 due legal issues. With unique blend of Southern rock, metal, blues and country, 27 Miles is part of the new Southern rock underground, which has been rising in the States in past ten years and the band has found lot of new fans since their 2006 debut album, "Bringin' It Back".
At the moment 27 Miles are Kevin “Solly” Solomon on lead vocals and rhythm/lead guitar, Donny Kulp on rhythm/lead guitar, Jason “JB” Benfield on Bass and Kurt Custer on Drums and back-up vocals.
Each member of the band has a long history in the music biz; Childhood friends Solly and Donny started playing at young age and formed their first bands soon after. Bass player Jason Benfields started rockin at the tender age of 13 and has been playing with different bands ever since. His biggest influences are the late great Allen Woody of the Allman Brothers Band & Govt. Mule along with Jack Bruce of the Cream. Original drummer Joseph Kern has been replaced by Kurt Custer who played in Lynyrd Skynyrd and Steve Earle’s band in the early 90`s.
Despite lack of major label backing, 27Miles has established a substantial following the old fashioned way; writing great tunes and through explosive live performances while touring heavily. All that hard work paid off, when the band had a change to work with British songwriter/producer Daniel Wills, who helped them finish some ideas and come up with a few songs to complete the debut album. Daniel introduced the band to Producer/Engineer Brian Dobbs who finally mixed the band’s 2006 release 'Bringin' It Back'.
The band had a special guests Dean Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots to drop in the studio and throw down a solos on "Where I Belong" as well as "Lessons Learned" and Duane Betts, son of Dickie Betts of the Allman Brothers Band on the song, "Brotherhood". Kevin Solomon’s powerful voice and Kulp's explosive guitar dominate their debut album, but there are also great vocal harmonies on most of the songs and every Southern rock fan should check out their album.

27MILES features the original co-founder: singer, songwriter and guitarist Kevin Solomon, a.k.a. "SOLLY". Front man SOLLY brings masterfully adept guitar work, a powerful, emotion-eliciting gravel voice and gift of gab personality.
Our newest and most profound member, Kurt Custer, "formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd" circa,"1990-94" on Drums and back-up Vocals. In 1990, Ed King, from Lynyrd Skynyrd, called and loved his drum work on the Copperhead Road,”Steve Earle” record so much, he asked him to join Lynyrd Skynyrd and he did in November of 1990. He was with Skynyrd four years and performed all over the world. Custer currently plays with 27MILES since Feb 2009.
On Rhythm/Lead Guitar, Daniel Meier 34 years old and has been playing guitar since 5 years old. Dan has been playing in rock bands since he was 15 years old. I am originally from South Carolina but moved to LA 9 years ago with my wife and the former band Ultravibe. Dan has played all over Califorinia in multiple LA bands since: Ultravibe, Art Damage and A Fifth of Reason and now with Malibu's finest 27MILES. Main guitar influences are Angus Young, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Dean DeLeo, Daron Malakian, Kim Thayil, Adam Jones.
On Bass, Eric Rondell plays his Fender J Bass for that warm classic rock bass sound. Born and raised in beautiful Malibu, Ca he has played in various bands around southern Cali over the last 25 years. His influences are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, Rush, Govt Mule, Tim Commerford of Audioslave etc..
Very Special guest and close friend to Solly of 27MILES, Duane Betts, of the Allman brothers family sits in from time to time. He is an exceptional improvisational guitar Heroe, for those of you that don't recognize his name his father is Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers, songs he's known for include but not limited too," Sweet Melissa, Whipping Post, Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts (born December 12, 1943) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and composer best known as a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. "Dickey Betts was ranked #58 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list in 2003. In my book Duane Betts is just as good, in some eyes better than his Daddy Dickey Betts.
Also, Special Guest appearance now and then Johnny Stachela, who is self-taught, has a slide guitar playing style that calls to mind legendary predecessors,"Ry Cooder and Duane Allman. That playing style has caught the eye of musicians who appreciate his artistry. Stachela plays a healthy dose of blues, country and Rock N Roll.
