Named after a very real swamp that lies near the border of Louisiana and Mississippi, the Honey Island Swamp Band is aptly named, with a rootsy sound that incorporates the best of both states. The group's music is a swampy mix of blues, soul, country, R&B, and the rhythms of the group's hometown, New Orleans. The band didn't come together in New Orleans, though, but formed instead in San Francisco, where Aaron Wilkinson (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Chris Mule (guitar, vocals), Sam Price (bass, vocals), and Garland Paul (drums, vocals) were all evacuees from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The band relocated back to New Orleans in 2007, adding Trevor Brooks on the Hammond B-3 organ and other keyboards in 2010. Described as "bayou Americana," the band released a seven-song self-titled EP, Honey Island Swamp Band, in 2008, following it with a full-length album, Wishing Well, a year later in 2009. Good to You appeared in 2010, and the group's raucous appearance at the 2011 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival was preserved on the album Live at Jazz Fest 2011. Honey Island Swamp Band's 2012 stand at the New Orleans Jazz Fest was also released as a live album, with the studio set Cane Sugar arriving in 2013. In 2016, the group teamed up with the independent Ruf Records label to release its fourth full-length studio album, Demolition Day.

Named after a very real swamp that lies near the border of Louisiana and Mississippi, the Honey Island Swamp Band is aptly named, with a roots sound that incorporates the best of both states, a swampy mix of blues, soul, country, R&B, and the New Orleans rhythms of the group's hometown. With four strong and soulful vocalists, plenty of beautiful, rustic four-part harmonies, Chris Mule's incredible slide guitar, a Hammond B-3, and a rhythm section that's Muscle Shoals funky, these guys are like the Band, Little Feat, Dr. John, the Meters, and the Allman Brothers all rolled into one New Orleans second-line package, with enough country in there to make Gram Parsons or George Jones a part of the mix, too. This is an impressive, fully formed band with a vision and good songs, and on Cane Sugar, the group's fourth album, they've put it all together with verve, clarity, and energy. Every song has muscle and depth, from the swampy country shuffle that opens things, "Change My Ways," through the Allman Brothers-like "Prodigal Son," to the delightfully bouncy and feisty title tune, "Cane Sugar." The whole album swaggers with intelligence and heart, and when the horns come in, or Mule's swooping slide, or those gritty, wonderful vocal harmonies, one can't help but feel that this is Americana done up in true Louisiana style, a Southern rock bayou gumbo that makes this a very special album, one that hits all the cylinders, pulls all the right strings, and then heads straight for the open-all-night dancefloor.

NEW ORLEANS–Following the success of Wishing Well, winner of OffBeatMagazine’saward for Best Blues Album 2009, the Honey Island Swamp Band returns with Good To You, their much-anticipated sophomore release.

Over a summer highlighted by performances at the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival , the Chenango Blues Festival in Norwich, NY; the White Mountain Boogie and Blues Fest in Thornton, NH; and the Federal Hill Jazz and Blues Festival in Baltimore, MD, the band has brought their infectious blend of roots-rock, Americana and funky blues to music lovers far and wide. The album became the number four top seller at Louisiana Music Factory during the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, launching a full-scale national release that continues with the Roots n Blues Festival in Columbia, MO, the first annual De Luna Fest in Pensacola, FL, and the Bear Creek Music Festival in Suwannee, FL this fall.

The album is already gaining momentum with steady airplay on East, West and Gulf Coasts, and if early reviews are any indication, Good To You looks to be the album that will establish Honey Island Swamp Band as the next major act to explode out of New Orleans.
