A ‘mysterious visual phenomenon’ may not be the first thought that comes to mind when you hear the name Matt Mann uttered, but growing up in the former Native American territory that we now call Oklahoma has given Matt an undeniable landscape with a magnificent history to draw much of his inspiration from. These Oklahoma experiences are evidenced in the songs that Matt has penned on his debut record Modern Day Outlaw. His band, Matt Mann And The Shine Runners, is made up of fellow Oklahomans Drew Nichols on guitar, pedal steel and lap steel and Josh Curtis on the bass guitar... The band formed in 2011 in Los Angeles and went into the studio in early 2012 with producer Marc Jordan (who also played drums on the record) to record the debut album Modern Day Outlaw. Adam MacDougall from the legendary band The Black Crowes lent his b3 organ and upright piano playing talents to the record as well.
Although the record was made in California, it's sounds and words give the listener an abundance of rich and vivid imagery of life back home in The Sooner State. A timeless record that can't help but put the listener on the prairie, at the lake, or at that dusty old bar with good friends.
