Keith Turner is the lead singer with the Fret-Tones and previously Hi-Voltage (who have since disbanded), and currently resides in Edinburgh, Scotland. The idea was to put him with the Southern Sound who are pretty much the Rollin’ Records house band, comprising of Wayne Hopkins (Bass), Tony Diavolo (Guitar), Andy Wren (Guitar), Adam Burney (Harmonica) and Dollar Bill (Drums), to inject a massive noise behind this great voice.
The tracks “Shake Rag Boogie” and “They Call Me The Breeze” were done in two takes in June 2010, and were released as a vinyl 45 that November. “Shake Rag” proved to be particularly popular on the dance floors with its sledgehammer beat, so a decision was made to record some more tracks for an album release.
The album was completed after 3 sessions in March 2011, and some top draw movers ‘n’ shakers were produced. Dave Palmer (Producer), pulled out all the stops as per usual, and the sound and atmosphere created on “Voodoo Blues” is something else. In fact the whole package is a modern masterpiece!
The new album is underway as I write (May 2012), which is every bit as good as this one, so look out for it!
